This link will take you to the API page where you can find the gasoline and diesel taxes charged per gallon in each state. You may also click on the graphic below to go to the API page. The files are in PDF format and some of the maps load slowly. The data is updated monthly. The total amounts in any of the tables includes the 18 cents per gallon the federal government collects from each gallon of gasoline sold at the pump. Other states levy their own gasoline taxes, using a variety of methods from a single tax per gallon to a sales tax or a combination of both.
