Crisis Point: Lawsuit Abuse in Louisiana

Who: Keynote Speaker Harold Kim, U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Legal Reform Executive Vice President, will address the economic impacts of lawsuit abuse in Louisiana and discuss opportunities to improve our litigation climate. Additionally, Louisiana Association of Business and Industry President Stephen Waguespack will moderate a panel discussion featuring local businesspeople who are directly impacted by lawsuit abuse.
Why: The economic toll of lawsuit abuse in Louisiana can be felt by everyone and is impacting Louisiana’s families and businesses. The cost of judgments, settlements and legal fees have significant financial consequences, as revealed in a series of recent national studies and reports.
For the ninth consecutive year, Louisiana has been named one of the nation’s Judicial Hellholes® by the American Tort Reform Foundation. This year, Louisiana moved up three spots in the rankings from number eight to five.
