Oil and Gas Production Data for Louisiana and Gulf of Mexico

State Data—Louisiana Department of Natural Resources
The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources has a database program called SONRIS and SONRIS Lite. Most people will be able to find what they want on SONRIS Lite. However, for people not directly involved in the industry, the researching can be perplexing. The SONRIS Lite section is a database drive page with dynamic links, meaning that you cannot save the links. So there are a few steps to go through to get the desired data.

After going to the link, click on the SONRIS square on the right side of the page. Next click the SONRIS Lite link on the left side of the page under database access. The next page looks a little busy, giving an indication of the data that is available. Most requests for data by the public involve production. Those can be found in the production information box.

The SONRIS Lite works through a query system and therefore must search a huge database. Thus, it can take several minutes before the results appear. Often the response will be faster in the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser as opposed to other browsers. Data from all of the SONRIS result tables may be copied into Excel spreadsheets for easier sorting and manipulation. As you explore the page, you will see that a considerable amount of information is available.

Based on requests received by Louisiana Mid-Continent over the years the following are the two most requested data streams. Currently, these are the last two links in the production information box on the Sonris Lite page, but that is subject to change.

Statewide Production By Month for Particular Year
This link will allow you to pick the year and will return the year’s data including oil, condensate, oil total, natural gas, casinghead gas, gas total, and well count.

Statewide Production By Parish for Particular Year
This will give the same data as above, except broken down on a parish by parish basis.

Federal Gulf of Mexico Production
The Minerals Management Service keeps track of oil and gas production in the federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The above link will bring you to a list of reports that are available, with production being the next to the last category. Production can be tracked by region, lease, planning area or operator.
