Chevron donates $25,000 to Terrebonne schools

Terrebonne Parish School District received a $25,000 grant from Chevron to buy high-end science equipment for seventh- and eighth-grade students.

The grant will pay for new SmartMicroScope 5M microscopes, allowing more than 1,300 students to view cells, examine sides of a salt crystal and inspect insects’ eyes. The microscopes work with computers and interactive smart boards.

“No sci-fi movie compares to what our students experience when they examine the microscopic world, and it’s impossible not to get excited when you see what these microscopes can do,” School Superintendent Philip Martin said. “The generous grant from Chevron opens up new ways of learning that will enhance how our students encounter science. Our partnership with Chevron is so very important to us especially within our focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics learning. Our many thanks go out to Chevron for their strong commitment to education in Terrebonne Parish.”
