Harvey Gulf to build LNG marine fueling facility

New Orleans-based Harvey Gulf International Marine plans to build and operate a liquefied natural gas marine fueling facility in Port Fourchon, with two separate fuel docks capable of storing 270,000 gallons of LNG, Chief Executive Officer Shane Guidry said Monday.

Harvey Gulf has also signed a contract for a sixth LNG-powered offshore support vessel. Harvey Gulf has invested $400 million in the 302-foot-long workboats and the fueling facility.

The company expects the first dock will be completed by February. Each dock will be able to pump 500 gallons of LNG per minute.

Harvey Gulf’s fueling facility is the second announced at Port Fourchon. In March, Shell announced a deal with Edison Chouest to supply LNG to vessels operating in the Gulf of Mexico. Under that agreement, Shell said it would supply the LNG from a unit that will be built in Geismar, and Edison Chouest would provide LNG barging and refueling.
