The Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil & Gas Association (LMOGA) issued the following statement in response to the final notice published for Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 259 by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM).

“LMOGA is pleased to see the follow through on mandated Gulf of Mexico lease sale 259 as required by the Inflation Reduction Act and the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act,” said Tommy Faucheux, LMOGA President. “The Gulf of Mexico holds immense potential to safeguard our energy security, keep energy prices low, and importantly sustain both our livelihoods with thousands of good-paying jobs, and our coastal resilience through revenue sharing.”

“While the lease sale is a step forward, this is the first lease sale in 15 months and the U.S. has gone more than 7 months without a 5-year program in place for offshore leasing and development," said Faucheux. “Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico stand ready to provide the affordable, reliable, secure energy Americans need, but we need clear guidelines from the administration, robust leasing programs, and operational certainty in permitting programs to truly unleash our nation’s energy potential and establish a clear path for American energy security."

"We urge the Department of Interior to finalize a new 5-year plan with regular and competitive lease sales so the offshore leasing program can continue to generate benefits for Louisiana and for all Americans.”
