Jim Bernhard, CEO of The Shaw Group in Baton Rouge, confirmed Friday that he is being considered for the position of U.S. Secretary of Energy, WBRZ reported.
Bernhard told the TV station that others are also being considered for the position. Whoever is picked would replace Stephen Chu, who announced his resignation from the post on Friday.
Bernhard is selling The Shaw Group to the Chicago Bridge & Iron Co., and is stepping down from his business role there. Louisiana political writer John Maginnis reported in November that Bernhard was "in the mix" for the Department of Energy position.
Bernhard also recently purchased a key plot of riverfront property along Lafayette Street in downtown Baton Rouge, and reportedly plans to build a mixed-use development there.
