The Shell Robert Training and Conference Center is planning a $4.169 million expansion.
The Tangipahoa Parish Permit Office granted the building permit Sept. 11 for a 26,386-square-foot facility at 23275 Shell Lane in Robert. Landis Construction Company will be the contractor, records show.
Hastings Stewart, a Shell spokesman, confirmed the move Thursday but did not say when the work will begin. He said the work will expand the Wells Training Facility.
“The Robert Training Center is very important to our operations, not only in the Gulf of Mexico but also for training around the world,” he said.
The North Shore is a good location being outside the area of most imminent danger from hurricanes, said Greg Varnado, District 2 Tangipahoa Parish Council representative.
“This is great for my district,” Varnado said. “Anytime someone chooses our area it means they’re happy with the situation, and they’re investing in our district.”
“We’re very happy to have them, and they’ve been great corporate neighbors,” he said.
