A family-owned shipbuilding company in Lockport has launched its biggest boat yet.
Thoma-Sea Shipbuilders said it took more than 200 workers and 30 contractors to build The Taylor James, which was launched Thursday. The boat is 295 feet long, 62 feet wide and weighs 2,600 tons.
It was the 19th boat launched by the company.
Gulf Offshore Logistics purchased the vessel for use in deep-water Gulf of Mexico exploration.
Thoma-Sea bought the Lockport shipyard in 2002. The company has a repair and conversion facility and another construction yard in Houma.
