Louisiana refineries are part of an export wave, with U.S. refiners selling more fuel abroad than ever before, according to a story on The Wall Street Journal’s website.
The story mentions Marathon Petroleum Corp.’s Garyville refinery, which makes diesel for export. Marathon is adding 100,000 barrels of daily capacity and building new dock space to handle the business.
Valero Energy Corp. has also expanded refineries in Louisiana and Texas to export diesel to Europe, according to the Journal.
Cheap local oil, from formations like the Eagle Ford Shale in Texas, and lower domestic gasoline consumption have allowed domestic refiners to sell more fuel abroad.
