ConocoPhillips has donated $12,000 to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office Water Patrol Section for the purchase of a boat and equipment.

The Courier reports the sheriff's office used the money to buy a 17-foot aluminum hull to replace an older one. The remaining money was used to purchase various equipment including a GPS navigational system, hydraulic jack plate and motion-stabilizing binoculars.

The water patrol is responsible for search and rescue marine operations for stranded or missing boaters, as well as enforcing boating safety and some wildlife and fisheries violations.
