Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) will donate $500,000 to the American Red Cross and United Way for Hurricane Isaac disaster relief assistance in Louisiana and Mobile, AL.
“The flooding from the storm has been devastating, particularly in southern Louisiana,” said Steve Blume, manager, ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Refinery. “We hope that our donation to the Red Cross and United Way will help the people of Louisiana and Mobile as they recover.”
ExxonMobil’s donation is being directed to the Louisiana Capital Area Chapter Red Cross and the Capital Area United Way in Baton Rouge, the United Way of the Greater New Orleans Area, the Southeast Louisiana Chapter Red Cross and the Alabama Gulf Coast (Mobile) Chapter Red Cross.
The Red Cross provides food, shelter, counseling and other assistance to the victims of this disaster and thousands of other disasters across the country each year. The Capital Area United Way serves an area which includes the parishes of Ascension, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, St. James, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana.
ExxonMobil employs approximately 5,000 employees and contractors in the Baton Rouge area, where it has operated refining and petrochemical manufacturing facilities for more than 100 years.
The United Way for the Greater New Orleans area serves Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington parishes. In St. Bernard Parish, an ExxonMobil affiliate operates Chalmette Refining, L.L.C., which employs approximately 1,000 employees and contractors.
“Like so many of the residents of southeastern Louisiana, our employees are clearing debris, patching roofs and rebuilding homes following Hurricane Isaac,” said Janet Matsushita, plant manager at Chalmette Refining. “ExxonMobil’s support is making a meaningful difference in our community.”
ExxonMobil also has oil and gas production installations on the coast of Louisiana and in the Gulf of Mexico, and employs approximately 200 employees and contractors. At Mobile, the company operates offshore natural gas production facilities and an onshore treating facility and has approximately 200 employees and contractors.
In 2011, Exxon Mobil Corporation, its divisions and affiliates, and the ExxonMobil Foundation provided a combined $234 million in contributions to nonprofit organizations worldwide. Of the total, $124 million supported communities in the United States.
