Over 100 students from the Arthur Ashe Charter School got stoked about STEAM- Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math - on Monday at the opening of interactive STEAM zone at the Smoothie King Center sponsored by Chevron.
The STEAM Zone features several interactive games and activities geared toward teaching children the science of basketball, such as vertical leap testing, a basketball stacking display and the anatomy of a basketball shoe, among others.
Th students also had fun with a customized building activity called GoldieBlox that encourages young girls and boys to learn more about engineering.
Special guests on hand for the ribbon cutting included Chevron's Gulf of Mexico Vice President Mike Illanne, Chevron's Gulf of Mexico General Manager of Public Affairs Sakari Morrison, and Rita Benson LeBlanc, owner of Vice Chairman of the Board of the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans, as well as Pelican players, dancers, and Pierre the Pelican.
