Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association Concludes Annual Meeting

Awards given to Shell Oil and Marine Well Containment Company for outstanding achievement and environmental stewardship

The Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association held its 2012 annual meeting on Jan. 25-26 in New Orleans. Oil and gas industry leaders convened at the historic Roosevelt Hotel, a landmark that has hosted the association’s annual meetings since the 1950s, for a two-day meeting to review the past year and assess opportunities and challenges for the year ahead.

“As we reflect on the past year and look ahead to the next, securing our energy future continues to be our most important commitment,” LMOGA President Chris John said. “Whether onshore or offshore operations, refineries or pipelines, Louisiana’s oil and gas industry continues to drive the economies of the Gulf Coast and power the future of America.”

On Wednesday, Shell Oil was awarded LMOGA’s 2012 Pelican Award, recognizing its outstanding achievement and commitment to the oil and gas industry, the community and the environment. Shell has accomplished a long series of firsts in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico and the company’s manufacturing operations in Louisiana continue to innovate and practice cutting edge technology while maintaining an exemplary safety and environmental record. With more than 5,000 Louisianans employed, Shell is a major provider of jobs in Louisiana and is a contributor to the communities where they operate.

The association’s second award, the Blue Heron Award, was awarded to Marine Well Containment Company, recognizing the company’s exceptional environmental stewardship in association with oil and gas by putting in place the containment system and organization to be continuously ready to respond to a potential well control incident in the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico. In addition, MWCC is committed to advancing technology and capability to keep pace with its member needs. MWCC member companies include LMOGA members ExxonMobil, Shell, ConocoPhillips, Chevron, BP, Anadarko and other industry leaders.

The annual meeting’s opening remarks were given by Mayor Mitch Landrieu and special guest speakers included Shell Oil Company President Marvin Odum, Marathon Petroleum President and Chief Executive Officer Gary Heminger, national political analyst Stuart Rothenberg, National Ocean Industries Association President Randall Luthi and a special presentation from newly appointed U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement Director Tommy Beaudreau.

Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association, founded in 1923, is the only oil and gas trade association exclusively representing all sectors of the oil and gas industry operating in Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico. LMOGA serves exploration and production, refining, transportation, marketing and mid stream companies as well as other firms in the fields of law, engineering, environment, financing and government relations.

LMOGA’s mission is to promote and represent the oil and gas industry operating in Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico by extending representation of our members in the Louisiana Legislature, state and federal regulatory agencies, the Louisiana congressional delegation, the media and the general public.
